Archives Index << About chicks (the feathered kind) From all we've read about caring for and raising chicks, we expcted our day-old chicks to be fragile and helpless creatures. As a matter of fact, I prepared Melissi to expect only half of them to survive. Well, weren't we in for a surprise! Those little devils are anything BUT helpless! They are little piggies when it comes to food and water, they peck and climb all over the other coop residents and will NOT stay in their safe little brooder box! 3 jump out while we're putting 2 back in. However, they also are quite resourceful:) Due to ongoing electrical problems at the coop our heatlamp has been more out of commission than not. Take a look at how they manage to stay warm and cozy
